Effective date: 18 May 2026
Last updated: 18 May 2026
Version: 1.0
Applies to: All EduNomicon Customers

1. Purpose

1.1 EduNomicon is built on the principle that schools and education communities should retain meaningful control over their data.

1.2 This Data Non-Colonialism Policy explains how EduNomicon approaches customer data, student data, customer-specific models, analytics outputs, deletion, portability, resale, cross-customer use and commercialization.

1.3 This policy is intended to support trust, transparency, institutional control, educational sovereignty and responsible use of school data.

2. What Data Non-Colonialism Means

2.1 In this policy, “data non-colonialism” means that EduNomicon does not treat customer-uploaded data as a resource to be extracted, resold, repurposed or used to build unrelated commercial advantage without the customer’s knowledge and agreement.

2.2 EduNomicon’s standard position is:

(a) the customer controls customer-uploaded data;

(b) EduNomicon does not claim ownership of customer-uploaded data;

(c) EduNomicon does not sell customer-uploaded data;

(d) EduNomicon does not use customer-uploaded student data for advertising;

(e) EduNomicon does not use customer-uploaded data for unrelated resale;

(f) EduNomicon does not use customer-specific models for unrelated cross-customer model development unless expressly agreed in writing;

(g) customers may request export, deletion or restriction of their data, subject to law, contract, technical limits, backup retention, audit, security and platform integrity requirements; and

(h) if customer data is removed, customer-specific models and outputs that depend on that data may also be removed or disabled.

3. Customer Data

3.1 Customer data includes data, files, variables, records, metadata, documents and other information uploaded, submitted, imported, connected or otherwise made available to EduNomicon by or on behalf of a customer.

3.2 Customer-uploaded data remains customer data.

3.3 EduNomicon uses customer-uploaded data only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, support, maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, audit and administer EduNomicon, or as otherwise expressly agreed in writing.

3.4 EduNomicon does not sell customer-uploaded data.

3.5 EduNomicon does not use customer-uploaded student data for advertising or behavioural marketing.

3.6 EduNomicon does not disclose customer-uploaded data to other customers for benchmarking, model development, resale, advertising, product comparison or unrelated commercial purposes unless expressly agreed in writing.

4. Customer-Specific Models and Outputs

4.1 EduNomicon may generate customer-specific models, outputs, reports, diagnostics, predictions, charts, summaries and other analytics records from customer-uploaded data.

4.2 Customer-specific models and outputs are created for the customer’s authorized educational analytics and decision-support purposes.

4.3 EduNomicon does not use customer-specific models to train unrelated cross-customer models unless expressly agreed in writing.

4.4 EduNomicon does not package, resell or disclose customer-specific models or customer-specific outputs to other customers without express written agreement.

4.5 If customer-uploaded data is deleted or removed, EduNomicon may delete or disable customer-specific models, reports, outputs and derived records that depend on that data, except where retention is reasonably required for audit, security, legal, compliance, backup, dispute resolution or platform integrity purposes.

5. Aggregated and De-Identified Information

5.1 EduNomicon may use aggregated, de-identified or non-customer-identifying operational information to understand platform performance, improve reliability, enhance security, identify errors, improve usability and develop product features.

5.2 EduNomicon will not knowingly use aggregated or de-identified information in a way that reasonably identifies a customer, student, parent, staff member, authorised user or other individual.

5.3 EduNomicon will not publish customer-identifying benchmarks, school comparisons, league tables, case studies or performance claims without the customer’s consent.

5.4 EduNomicon may use general learnings from operating the platform to improve the platform, provided those learnings do not disclose customer confidential information, customer-uploaded data, student personal information or customer-specific model outputs.

6. No Hidden Data Extraction

6.1 EduNomicon will not intentionally design the platform to extract customer data for unrelated commercial use.

6.2 EduNomicon will not use customer-uploaded data to build unrelated advertising profiles, sell student insights, create student marketing segments, or support third-party advertising.

6.3 EduNomicon will not use customer-uploaded student data to train general-purpose foundation models unless expressly agreed in writing.

6.4 Optional AI-assisted explanation features are designed to use aggregated analytics metadata rather than raw student-level records, direct identifiers or sensitive information.

7. Data Portability, Deletion and Exit

7.1 Customers may request export, deletion, restriction or review of customer-uploaded data in accordance with the applicable agreement, Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and technical limitations of the platform.

7.2 EduNomicon will take reasonable steps to support customer exit, data return or deletion where required by law, contract or applicable agreement.

7.3 Deletion from active systems may not immediately delete all backup, log, audit, security or archival copies. Such copies may be retained for a limited period where reasonably required for backup, security, legal, compliance, dispute resolution or platform integrity purposes.

7.4 Where customer-uploaded data is deleted, customer-specific models, outputs, reports and derived records that depend on that data may also be deleted or disabled.

7.5 EduNomicon will not hold customer data hostage for unrelated commercial leverage. However, access to the platform, exports or transition assistance may be subject to outstanding fees, technical limits, security requirements, lawful restrictions and applicable agreement terms.

8. Respect for School Context

8.1 EduNomicon recognises that school data is contextual. It reflects local cohorts, teachers, policies, curriculum, interventions, assessment design, community factors and institutional history.

8.2 EduNomicon does not assume that data patterns from one school should automatically be imposed on another school.

8.3 EduNomicon is designed to support school-specific interpretation and human review rather than universal, one-size-fits-all claims.

8.4 EduNomicon outputs should be used to support local professional judgement, not to override school context or reduce students to generic data categories.

9. Exceptions

9.1 EduNomicon may retain, use or disclose customer data, logs, metadata, records or outputs where reasonably necessary to:

(a) provide and support the platform;

(b) secure the platform;

(c) investigate misuse, incidents or unauthorized access;

(d) comply with law, court order, regulator, insurer or contractual obligation;

(e) resolve disputes;

(f) enforce Terms of Service;

(g) maintain auditability;

(h) preserve evidence;

(i) support backups and disaster recovery; or

(j) protect privacy, security, student safety or platform integrity.

9.2 Any such use or disclosure will be limited to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.

10. Relationship with Other Documents

10.1 This policy should be read together with the EduNomicon Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Notifiable Data Breach Response Policy, Support and Service Level Agreement and any applicable customer agreement.

10.2 If a separate written agreement provides stronger customer data protections, the stronger protection will apply unless otherwise required by law.
